Aly Cissokho; A defensive Option?

Top of the morning to y'all

First of all this morning I will like to wish Johan Djourou a happy 25th birthday. This is wishing him more years of better football to come.

Right down to business; If there is one thing that every Arsenal fan in the world except the manager agree on is the fact that the team needs reinforcements in every department of the pitch. But definitely some areas need the reinforcements more than others and in my opinion the defense is most desperate for the reinforcements and am sure most fans would agree with me on this. Except the manager. The situation is so bad that Arsenal have used more than six different players in the left back position this season alone and this has definitely had its effects on the overall results of the team. Of the 20 teams in the Premier league Arsenal has conceded 25 goals on the road alone making us the team with the worst away defensive record which is pretty ironic because last season our away form was superb (we had the best away form in the league) and it was our home form that proved to be our undoing. How many times have we bemoaned the shaky defence of the squad and somehow, it seems that the problems are pointed out and nothing seems to be done about it only for it to come back to haunt us in the next game.

Aly Cissokho has been touted as a possible replacement for the ever-injured Kieran Gibbs but with Santos and Gibbs coming back sometime in the course of the season, it means the manager would have three left backs at his disposal and with the new premier league rules preventing clubs from registering not more than 25 players Wenger would have to shed some deadwood to accomodate the Lyon man. Reports this morning suggest that Lyon are willing to listen to offers for the defender in the region of 8million pounds and knowing Wenger's negotiation skills, I bet he can knock off a million or two from that price. That means we can have a good and proven left back for as low as 7million(taking Wenger's negotiation skills into account).

I understand his reservations at not wanting to have three left backs in the squad but I have seen Andre Santos this season and am sure he has the abilities (good dribble, composure great cross, a good eye for goal) to play in the left wing. So having Cissokho would not be a great addition coupled with the fact that he has French league and Champions League experience. But of course we have learnt that what we want and what Wenger does are very different things and it would be such a shame if Arsenal continues to drop points on the back of defensive performances like we had on Sunday night.

God bless the Arsenal
Now to breakfast. Iree o
