I Love Spurs

Top of the morning to y’all
First of all I will like to tender my unreserved apologies for not posting since Monday. This week has been very tough on me. It’s one of those weeks where everything just seems to turn on you and you just can’t wait for it to end. In those situations, one just has to look life in the face and grab it by the balls. One thing has been on my mind throughout the week though; it’s the Narf Lahndan Darby.
Really it’s been on my mind long before this week and all I can think of is the irony of the fact that I Love Spurs. YES, u heard me. I love spurs and as an Arsenal fan am not ashamed to say it, I love Spurs. I don’t care whatever players the Beach Boys have got, I love Spurs. I think they are the best team in the league with great players and a fantastic fluid style of play and truly they are my best team in the whole league.
Honestly what is there not to love about Spurs, they have got a great team with brilliant individual players. Don’t you just love it when Manu just runs and dictates the game; don’t forget he was voted the best player in the league a couple of seasons ago, and the ever reliable solidness of Parker as guard? They have also got dreamy eyed captain fantastic-NO HOMO- who is the highest points scorer for Spurs in history and also a wily old manager who really knows how to motivate his team to win trophies. Good old Gregg.
The San Antonio Spurs are a great team and –wait a minute- what Spurs do y’all think I have been raving on about? The Sp*urs? BALDERDASH. Those guys haven’t won anything since the erm stone age I think. Will have to do a research on that one though. Good old twitchy the manager has won just one trophy in his 25 years of management, so when I talk about a manager that motivates his team to win “trophies”, y’all should know am not referring to twitchy. Twitchy don’t even pay tax. Their Manu will never be able to control play like Manu Ginobili does but one has to admit their Parker is pretty solid in defence just like our Tony Parker.
Am not sure I agree with Van Persie this morning on the timing of this fixture on the back of what has happened to the team since last week even though I quite understand where he is coming from. Robin said in his official match day programme notes.

 “What better way to set things straight again than to beat Spurs? I’d rather be playing them now than on any other day, and we know that a win is absolutely vital”

As much as I agree that a win is absolutely vital, am not sure now is the best time to play Spurs. They have been performing beyond expectations this season and I would have preferred that the team has had a couple of good games before having to play them. That way we would have gathered some momentum and would definitely play with more confidence and spontaneity. But they are consummate professionals and they very well know what is at stake this weekend. As it really is win or burst. A draw would not be a total disaster but not ideal.
One thing I noticed during the course of the week is the silence and gloom that seem to descend on the club after the Sunderland game. Nobody just seemed ready to say a little something to the microphone and the guys from the press just decided to be creative. From the manager being handed £55million to £100million in just a week, to Wenger ready to launch a massive double bid for Gotze and Podolski. Really, Arsenal is a treasure mine of information-second to Torres- for all forms of reporters who are only interested in the clicks they generate that the actual credibility of their stories.
Of all the mumu transfer talk that was saturated in the press this week the only credible one was the transfer of Andrey Arshavin back to Zenit St Petersburg where he joined in 2008. Thinking about the deal in its totality, I think it’s a bad decision to let him go. For one, it leaves us short of options in attack and we don’t have any players returning from long term injuries or a new signing coming to replace him. This coupled with the fact that our options in attack are not really options as the manager has shown throughout the season they are not good enough for the Arsenal squad-Chamakh and Park am talking to you- leaves us short of experience. For all the criticism that has been thrown at Arshavin’s door, he is still a player capable of doing the unexpected and changing a game which is something we can’t say for the two afore mentioned players. That leaves us for the a fumbling Walcott, a learning Chamberlain and unconfident Gervinho to fight for the top four finish this season and probably Benayoun. Am sure in the solitude of the night and the comfort of his bed when Arsene looks at his squad, he will tell himself ‘I need better players’.
Finally this morning, Mr Reliable Bakary Sagna sums up the Arsenal squad in one sentence while talking about Bale and the chances of the team in tomorrow’s match. He said;

We can beat anyone, like Barcelona, but we can make silly mistakes and lose games. We need to improve this”.

No arguments on that one though and I definitely hope they do improve on that this season and beyond starting from tomorrow’s game.
So that's all for now folks be back on Monday for a fresh package. Wishing the team good luck for tomorrow. Please drop your comments in the box below and share on your Facebook and Twitter pages. You can follow on twitter @nigeriangunners. God bless the Arsenal. Iree o
