RvP's Individual Honors, Poldi and Pearce

Top of the morning to y’all
It’s been a very quiet week so far at the Emirates with Robin Van Persie the only Arsenal player stealing the entire spotlight after being awarded the Football Writers Association Player of the Year Award and thus becoming only the third Arsenal player in history to scoop both awards in the same season after Dennis Bergkamp (1997/98) and Thierry Henry (2002/2003 and 2003/2004). Its honor well deserved for Robin who has not only been fantastic as a player by banging in goals when we need him to but as a leader of a team that desperately needed someone to point out the way and as a person that is mature, humble and responsible. Gone are the days when Arsenal was critiscised for lacking leaders on the pitch. Gone are the days of cry-baby Gallas and I-want-to-return-to-Barcelona Fabregas. Van Persie has proven to be not only a better captain than these guys but also a better leader and am sure most fans will agree with me on this that he is the best captain we have had since the great Tony Adams. His contract situation is definitely one that has had most fans on the edge, but am sure he genuingly loves the club and wants to stay abd win things. Its in the clubs hands to show that they can match his level of ambition by signing quality players at the close of the season and clearing out the dead wood in the team.
Speaking of signing quality players, the Lukas Podolski deal seems to have finally benn done and dusted and the only thing preventing the announcement is an official statement from both clubs. According to TThe Metrohe Metro, the deal is worth just under £10million with additional add-ons depending on his appearances for the club and trophies he wins with us. Personally, I don’t mind the club paying Koln another £10million at the end of next season if we win the premier league.
The Mirror reported last night that Team GB coach Stuart Pearce is ready to defy Arsene Wenger by taking Jack Wilshere to the Olympics. i wonder how Pearce can be so determined to take a player who has not played a single competitive match since last June to a major competition such as the Olympics. It clouds any line of rational thinking. Obviously, Pearce does not have the fitness of Wilshere and his wellbeing at heart. Nobody is saying Wilshere should not play for his national team. Definitely every player wants to play for his fatherland and especially in the Olympics coupled with the fact that England is hosting it. It would be a dream come true for any player to be selected but when he has not kicked the ball in over a year and he being rushed for a major tournament that comes across as selfish and irresponsible on the part of the manager. We all know what happened when we tried to rush him back into the squad in Febuary, he suffered a setback and could not recover for the entire season.
It was the same Pearce that took Walcott to the U-21 championships and the lad returned jaded and couldn’t perform to expected standards at the start of the following season. The unfortunate thing is there is absolutely nothing Arsenal can do about it once the medics have confirmed him fit to play, he will be played. The real problem lies not with him playing for England but the effects on the player after the tournament as he will return jaded and tired for the start of the season. I really do hope Pearce lets common sense prevail and let him complete his rehabilitation before being eased back into competitive football. But seriously who am I kidding?
In other news, Denilson says he will return to Arsenal next season. Even as I type this, I cant help but laugh at the guy. Don’t he watch premier league football in Brazil? Of all the current Arsenal midfielders, who does he think he would displace? It seems getting regular playing time is not good enough for him and would like the comfortable benches at the Emirates, am sure he is in constant touch with Chamakh who I guess has been assuring him of what a comfortable place the bench is and he definitely willing to give it a go. Huh news flash Denilson, we don’t want you back at Arsenal you had your chance and blew it. Please just stay back in Brazil or better still go join Anelka in Chinese Shenhua or whatever but not the Emirates PLEASE.
Finally, I would like to congratulate our noisy neighbors in blue for their deserving victory at Uefalona last night. They really showed they know how to park a bus. Good drivers that Chelsea lot.
That's all for now folks, be back on Friday for another package. Drop your comments on my twitter page http://www.twitter.com/nigeriangunners and I would be glad to read from you.
God bless the Arsenal Iree o.
