Interlull Ramblings

Top of the morning to yall

The interlull seems to be taking its toll not only on some real footie, it’s taking its toll on me as well. For the better part of last week and this one, I have been really ill and the last time I saw anyone kick a football was at the close of the West Ham – Arsenal game. It’s been that bad.

Being away from football this last week has made me feel very rusty, like I have been away for a year and not a week. I tried to do a roundup of our players’ performances for their respective national teams yesterday but as I haven’t watched any games, it was hard. So this morning am just going to ramble on about the little I know of the international games so please pardon any blunders.

I think the biggest story of the interlull so far is The Ox getting his first international goal for England in the 5-0 drubbing of San Marino on Friday. If someone had told Oxlade-Chamberlain at this stage last year that he would be a full England international in just less than a year and he would bag his first international goal soon afterwards, am sure he would have laughed it off. Such is the amazing leaps he has made over the last year that he joined Arsenal.
First England goal

Though Arsene must have envisaged a bright international future for the youngster, am sure he did not think it would come this quick and one of the ingredients of the young man’s success is his willingness to work. He seems like a very good likeable kid and don’t seem to let his success get into his head. Always willing to work for his team, take opponents one and generally develop himself. I cannot but congratulate him on his success so far and wish him lots more for the future especially in Arsenal colours.

Moving on to some other bizarre news, Per Mertesacker scored for Germany! Though I havnt seen the goal, I have been imagining him volleying a cross home. It must have been a real treat, only for them to throw away the 4 goal lead. Funny thing is he came close to score for Arsenal in the win against West Ham.

Olivier Giroud also scored for France after being brought on as an 88th minute sub to snatch a point for Les Bleus. Good for him, the goal will do him confidence lots of good.

Back to London, Wilshere, Sagna and Frimpong completed 90 minutes in a closed door friendly against Chelsea yesterday managed by Arsene Wenger himself. Reports suggest that jack might be returning to his best as his trademark runs at the opposition defence was seen a number of times during the game.
It’s a big step for him as he nears a first team return while Sagna looks to push Jenko for the right back spot in the first team. it will be great to have them both back (Wilshere and Sagna) while I suspect that Frimpong might have to go out on loan again this season and some section of the media suggest that Wolves might be willing to take him back in January, Wilshere and Sagna will probably be integrated into the first team once they are back to their best and like always say, its going to be a beautiful dilemma for Wenger to choose a midfield trio from a pool of Diaby, Cazorla, Arteta, Wilshere Ramsey, Coquelin and not forgetting Rosciky. *rubbing hands gleefully* cant wait.

The lads fly back to London today after their international duties and the focus will shift to the Norwich game on Saturday evening. Theo Walcott seem to be the first major casualty of the interlull, after his collision with the San Marino keeper on Friday which he described as like being hit by a bus, while Szczesny was said to have suffered a setback in his return from injury. We will definitely know more on the injury front during Arsene Wenger’s press conference today.

That's right about it for today, be right back next time for another one. If you have enjoyed reading, please share with you friends on Facebook and Twitter and follow @NigerianGunners as well.
God bless the Arsenal, Iree o.
