A Done Deal

Top of the Morning to Y’all
With 81 goals between them last season, one spearheading his team’s attack as they won the French Ligue one, another having the best season of his career scoring goals at will and winning the PFA and PWA player of the year awards for best player in the EPL and the third, well he couldn’t save his club from relegation but contributed an impressive 18 league goals and at 27 is close to 100 international caps for his country scoring over 40 goals in the process. I introduce to you all Olivier VanPoldi, Arsenal’s striking trio for next season as the club bids to end their trophy drought of 7 years.
Theatrical right? Yeah I know and that was the intent and yes it’s a done deal, the deal bringing Giroud to Arsenal for £12 million is completed with just paper work and formalities left to be completed before we have an official announcement later this week or after the Euros (whichever suits the parties) but one thing is certain, Olivier Giroud WILL be playing for us next season.
With my theatrics out of the way, I want to apologise to my readers for missing my Friday and Monday post. I have been transit for the best part of 5 days traversing about 5 states in the process. It’s all for good though and I pray you all get to your permanent sites by the grace of the Almighty.
Back to Arsenal stories and Olivier Giroud will sign for us and it’s so refreshing to see the club showing ambition once again by signing one of the best players around and of course persuade Van Persie to sign a new contract.
A great addition if you ask me as he brings a different pattern of play to the squad. He is a very physical player and one of his main assets is his strength and he is also very good in the air. He has a 70% success rate in aerial duels of the players in Europe’s top 5 leagues and that's something we can really use. He is more Drogbaish than anything else and it’s good to have a striker that can bully defenders in the league which is usually the other way around with Arsenal players.
With the signing completed, Wenger can now switch focus to persuading Van Persie to sign a new deal as for me, that would be his biggest signing of the season as we can’t want to end our trophy drought or claim to show ambition by letting go of our best players every year to strengthen out rivals.
With all the talk going round about M’Villa, he might just be the next player to sign for the club but that might mean the exit of one of either Diaby or Ramsey as it’s safe to say that Wilshere, Song and Arteta are untouchable at the moment not for getting Frimpong and Coquelin as well. For all you know, we might not even sign him but you never know with Arsene.
Johan Djourou said last night on his official Twitter account that transfer rumours linking him with a move out of the club are false and he is committed to the Arsenal. Well who will blame him for being committed, he earns 60k per week for being the fourth choice central defender. That is 60k to sit on the bench per week and hope something happens to the other 3 guys before he gets playing time.
I think it’s time for him to move on. Like others such as Denilson and Vela before him, they have had opportunities to prove that have the quality to play for a top club like Arsenal and they just don’t have it and its best they ply their trade elsewhere. I would suggest a look into the reserve team for an upcoming less expensive defender like Ignasi Miquel or Kyle Bartley to fill that fourth choice role. Miquel preferably as he has had more first team experience. It’s not like Djourou is that much better than them as when we needed him to step up to be a man, he flunked his chance. The games against Man United at Old Trafford and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge comes to mind.
Finally for today, the Daily Mail reports that Jack Wilshere has deleted his Twitter account and has talked to the police following rumours that he tested positive to cocaine. I will try not to say much about it as it’s not even worth wasting time talking about. I will just like to wish Jack a speedy recovery from his injury before the start of the coming season as we have missed him terribly.
Be back on Friday with another edition. God bless the Arsenal, Iree o
